Our day in Wales we visited Chepstow Castle and Tintern Abbey. The castle was built in 1067 during the rule of William the Conqueror. It is the oldest post-Roman stone structure in Britain. The abbey was built in 1131 and fell into ruin due to Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries when the lead roof was sold and building abandoned.
