Yin/Yang Everything sits on a spectrum. You’ve got pleasure and pain, kindness and cruelty, sadism and masochism, dominance and submission. Each one beautiful because of its opposites, because they rest on either side of a conceptual coin. The pendulum swings, and you follow it like a good little girl. Despite their opposite nature, the end results are often the same. Extreme pain and extreme pleasure are similarly overwhelming, drowning you in an ocean of sensation until you can barely react, let alone think. Kindess at the far end of the pendulum swing, and cruelty at the other end, betray a similar interest, if nothing else. With me behind the actions, there’s a considerable amount of care and affection, too. But sensory deprivation, and it’s twin sensory overload, are some of the most interesting. Take everything away, slip over the blindofld, the gag, the mittens, and ensure you’re properly trussed and bound, and the world will start to shift. Your brain, trained for patterns and variation as it is, will become frustrated and intolerable of the monotony of nothing, the lack of inputs. Your mind will wander, and you’ll be left there, with nothing to think, nothing to do but exist in that moment. Pushed to the other extreme, and you’re just as lost. Your mind is just as unable to think, to process, to do anything but hurl the constant stream of sensations and feelings past the normal filters, do nothing to sort them one from another. Because the torrent is unending, and you’re just looking to make it through, to come out the other side with at least a little of your sanity intact.
