Where I’m from, if a person is upset, then someone might tell them, “Don’t get your panties in a ruffle.” I’ve also heard, “Don’t get your panties in a bunch,” or “Don’t get your tail feathers in a ruffle.” I would assume that sayings like these get turned and twisted over time and across geography.
