Hiraeth Creature #1187 - Cloudcover Silk“Storms often evoke fear and hesitation for travellers, and while they can be destructive, they also carry the possibility of rebirth. Land stricken by drought will see the all-consuming shadow of rain as a blessing. As darkened clouds take over the sky, most aerial creatures take cover with the rest of the world or find new skies to wander, but transient and powerful beings do not heed such corporeal threats. Hovering over the land during razor winds and mighty deluges is a phantasm known as Cloudcover Silk, who float about peacefully regardless of the chaos around them. They follow after powerful storms to skulk in their shadows, becoming more and more frequent the stronger the tempest. From a distance they might look like a trick of the eye, but the closer they come, the rippling of their cloth-like hide becomes noticeable as well as the starkness of their horns and glowing eyes. Their appearance often sparks fear in those they follow. Those who are accosted by Cloudcover Silk barely remember the encounter, as their touch often sends one into shock. Though they appear ghastly, their cause actually stems from concern for their would-be victims. Those out in the wilds are more fearful of the elements, and the Cloudcover Silk come to safeguard travellers. They force others into slumber, leeching off fear and agitation so they may wake after the storm has passed. Those who undergo this phenomenon often wake up relaxed, with little knowledge of what happened. Animals tend to avoid or seem repelled by those who have been touched by these spectres for at least day. While the Cloudcover Silk is motivated by empathy, some may find their presence more fearful than anything— a fire is often enough to keep them at bay, as Cloudcover Silk despise warmth. While they have decent intentions, their odd way of conveying them as had them vilified over the years as malevolent ghosts, believed to be the souls of those who lost their lives in a great storm. Cloudcover Silk are very easy to call out to as a magical summon, for their simple wish to aid and appease others, which unfortunately made them a favourite among magic users with ill-intent, such as litches. If faced with one of these beings as an aggressor, they could be reasoned with and turned against their master if they realize how they’ve been tricked to do harm.” -- source link
