antmfunny: 2. Deaf AND BlindJust when you think this show wouldn’t stoop any lower, they intentionally designed a shoot that effectively Helen Keller-ed Nyle. Classy!I get that posing in the complete dark is supposed to be challenging for the models, but it’s an outright unfair assignment for someone like Nyle. Yu Tsai tries to use a flashlight to “count off” when Nyle should pose, but once the flash of the camera goes off, it blinds and disoriented him, leaving him unsure of what the count is before the next picture occurs. Let’s talk about some other reasons this shoot was stupid:First, the final photos in no way reflect that these were done in the pitch dark. It looks like the models were lit, which means they could have just as well let the models have some light. Hell, they didn’t even have to actually be in the woods - the color enhancements make it look like they’re standing in front of a cheesy green screen background.Second, Tyra made a big deal about it being the “first time” Top Model contestants have had to pose for photos in the pitch dark. Except that they just did it last cycle in the slaughterhouse. Try as we might, it’s too soon to forget shit that just happened in Cycle 21!Third, where was Nyle’s interpreter? I know it’s the middle of the night, but not having him on hand to effectively communicate how the shoot would go once they could no longer communicate seems like straight up sabotage.Fourth, Tyra couldn’t help but describe posing in the dark with extreme hand gestures. Control yourself, crazy woman!I’m not saying that Nyle is completely blameless for his performance - his poses look terrible. But while Yu Tsai could verbally command the others to switch up their body positions, Nyle was left fumbling in the dark without constructive feedback. He also had fewer usable shots since he constantly missed his cue due to no fault of his own. Ever-compassionate Kelly Cutrone bitches that she wishes he gave the photo a sort of “Elvis vampire” vibe. I’m not saying Nyle’s photo is good, but if it is anything, it is definitely “Elvis vampire.”Whatever. Then Cutrone, knowing full well that Nyle was at a severe disadvantage, asks him if this shoot was his best. Nyle says he doesn’t, and when he starts to elaborate, she cuts him off as if he’s full of excuses. The thing is, despite the fact that Nyle’s has more difficulty than the other models at literally every shoot so far, you rarely hear him complain. It’d be one thing if he were asking for all sorts of accommodations or sympathy because of his inability to hear, but I don’t think it’s unwarranted to be frustrated by a situation where he has no way of understanding what’s going on. Most likely, the producers wanted to give Nyle, one of the frontrunners of the competition, a scare in the bottom two like they had with Lacey the week before and this seemed like a fun (albeit sadistic) way to throw him off his game. Okay, fine, we’ve seen that kind of thing many times before. But Tyra’s speech about this being proof of Nyle “slipping” has me worried that they’re laying the groundwork for a Nyle ouster. And if Nyle goes before Mikey, that’s a damn shame.5 Funniest Moments of ANTM Cycle 22 Ep. 13 My husband (who is not a fan of the show and oftentimes reluctant to join me watching the show) thinks this is a blatant sabotage -- source link
