I’m Francisco Martins, a Portuguese photographer, and for several years now, I have been working on a project called #LongIsBeautifulProject dedicated to long hair in the masculine. I had long hair myself and and always felt pressure to cut it short coming from pretty much everywhere but never really understood the reason why my hair’s length bothered so many people. I started looking into the history of long hair and decided to start this project that celebrates long hair.Many societies, especially ancient ones believed that hair was more than just dead cells with aesthetic purposes. Some feel that long hair gave Native Americans certain sensory abilities, acting as a sort of antenna, much like whiskers on a cat.
