Already sitting up, as if she expected me, her eyes watched my every step. “Funny meeting you here…” It was not ‘funny’, us meeting here. She knew I’d come, she knew it. She could tell I wouldn’t be able to stay away from the moment she said she’d be out here, sunbathing at the hotel pool. It was awkward, so awkward, bumping into her and her family in the elevator up from the lobby after I had checked in this morning. She was a student of mine, for god’s sakes…what were the chances we’d be vacationing in the same spot, staying at the same hotel, over winter break?? And her invite, to come up to ‘hang out’ with her at the pool - that obviously didn’t go over well with her parents, who heard the whole thing. I wasn’t with my wife - long story - and the thought of an older man with their teenage daughter while they themselves would be out on a trip into the city… Well, I of course laughed it off, in front of them.
