axolawful:thenativetank:typhlonectes: Spotted Gar (Lepisosteus oculatus) are freshwater predatory fish found in the South central U.S. and some parts of the Great Lakes region. They are the smallest of the gars, reaching a length of only up to 3 ft. They eat mainly other fish, and lay their eggs on submergent vegetation in shallow areas of lakes, rivers, streams, and bayous. As with other gars, and some other groups of fish that sometimes live in low oxygen aquatic conditions, spotted gars may use their swim bladders as a respiratory organ, and breathe air.photograph by NappingCaptain | Flickr and USFWSThey are found in brackish areas as well :)These are my favorite fish hands down. I love the snoots. -- source link
