“Mother’s Glamour Boy”However much I hated it, in a typical boyish manner, due to my scrawny, androgynous looks, mother encouraged my modelling… and no denying it, there was also a financial incentive for a single mother. I would fear that my friends at school would recognize me in the magazines, but mother insisted, that not only was I in the kind of magazines which women would only read, but regardless, they wouldn’t believe it was actually me. Soon I would find months passing where I’d realized I hadn’t modeled anything other than dress or skirt ensembles, and a good proportion of outfits from shoot would be taken home, with mother saying she could sell them on, but also she insisted to my discomfort, that I could wear them. Either way, most of my wardrobe would come to be filled with these outfits, as well as a significant proportion of my drawers filled with makeup, jewelry and adornments used on shoots. I would come to so hate it, if mother knew that I had come to, ever so slightly feel differently about my modelling, dressing and doing my makeup in the privacy of my bedroom. -- source link
