Ava DuVernay is the first Black woman to direct a Hollywood movie with a budget of over $100 million. She’s directing the upcoming adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time (amazing), which is slated to include a performance by Oprah and come out some time in 2017. Once again, DuVernay is pushing Hollywood forward—how sad is it that no Black woman has had this opportunity before? This is another example where the lack of diversity in Hollywood comes into sharp focus—it’s worth remembering that at the biggest film studios in Hollywood, almost every single top executive is a white man. -- source link
