Hey, I hope you don’t mind me answering these publicly! I figured others might like to read these answers.I did write about my headcanon ramifications for bonding somewhere but maybe it never made it out of the Patreon posts. Bonding is essentially like coding their bodies to only respond sexually to each other, so they won’t breed with other alphas/omegas; it’s entirely biological, matching scents, matching heat/rut cycles, becoming “family” on an instinctual, animal level. I don’t really dig a lot of the psychic stuff a lot of other folks include so there isn’t any of that in this ‘verse.Personally I see the scent glands in the throat as primarily the organs responsible for triggering the bond, but I think the effect goes all the way to the brain and relies on hormones to maintain, which are produced by the sex organs, mostly ovaries and testes. I think it would be possible to sever a bond by reversing the process, through chemical/surgical intervention; in Will’s case, through the removal of his sexual organs (ovaries) which produce the hormones that would respond to his mate. Will’s phrasing in that case means Hannibal literally cut out not only their offspring, but also Will’s organs which were maintaining the bond, essentially blaming Hannibal for choosing to break their bond. Hannibal’s intent was to leave an ovary functional enough that Will would still remain bonded to him (at least until he did something about it) but would not be able to carry the children of someone else if he managed to re-bond with another person, to “take away his family” and maximize his suffering (it’s real shitty but we forgive Hannibal for the shit he did in the canon, so I personally don’t view this as a stretch beyond that; Will did “trick” Hannibal into bonding with him, in his viewpoint, which escalates the “betrayal” beyond the canon as well). Hannibal assumes Will is using some chemical method to suppress the hormones from his remaining ovary, which would eventually reprogram Will’s body/break the bond, but then hearing Will has done no such thing, he suspects that the damage to Will’s body could be beyond his intent, making the bond impossible to reform. Which wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for him, but it was a regret. I honestly don’t think it would have been a dealbreaker for Will either; I imagine there’s an alternate version of this where Will’s heat doesn’t trigger, he throws them over the cliff because he can’t handle all these feelings, and things proceed from there much like many of the existing post-wotl fic but with the addition of Hannibal struggling with the idea that he damaged Will more than he intended and Will struggling with feelings of inadequacy and worrying that Hannibal will move on to someone with a working body eventually, and probably ending in a self-castration to even things out because Hannibal don’t give a fuck, but that’s in another universe because this was supposed to be a dark smut comic and so Will’s body started working again. He always did have part of an ovary remaining, it was just kind of in stasis, but the stress of the fight combined with the scent of his mate jumpstarted it back into function, at least on the hormone level, triggering an emergency heat to reaffirm their bond.As for the no testicles/semen thing, I answered that back here: https://rednoonsun.tumblr.com/post/171357871634/ Look into how a vasectomy works too :)Sorry for the long rambling reply lol~ Hope that answers some questions~ -- source link
