Here we go: Baz enters our bedroom wordlessly and crawls up my body. I’m sitting on the bed, back propped against the headboard in nothing but my pants (it’s not a hot day, I’m just endlessly warm), but I can tell from his touch that it’s not that kind of embrace. That’s not what he needs right now. “Baz?” He presses his body against my side and rests his head where my chest and stomach meet. There’s a little dip there between the two chubby parts of my torso, and he likes to bury his nose in it. He does that now, slinging an arm over me to pull me flush against him. “Simon,” he sighs. I hold him in return with a hand pressed to his ribs and the other tangling in his hair. It’s a bit greasy, if I’m honest, which sends alarm bells ringing in my head. “Alright babe?” I try. He shakes his head. Okay, not alright then. What am I supposed to do with that? (I don’t mean that in a shit way, it’s more like- what’s the next step for helping Baz cope? What’s the plan, who do I need to fight off or rescue to make things better?) There isn’t a battle, though. Not anywhere but inside his head. Some days it’s in mine, others it’s in his, the worst days is when it’s both. My therapist would tell me to focus on what I can control, like communicating.“I’ve got you,” I say, giving the communicating thing a go. He nods. His hand slips around my side and grabs onto my upper arm to tug us impossibly closer. I stroke his hair with a whisper-touch, the kind I can’t stand getting and he can’t get enough of. “Hold me,” he whispers. I frown. “I am.”“Hold me more.” He doesn’t mean harder, I don’t think. (He likes it better when I’m gentle. I like it better, too.) I’ve got so many ways to hold him, though, and I’m only using my arms right now. I amend this by wrapping my tail around his lower back, followed by a wing cocooned around his entire body. “Mmmm, better.” “Yeah?” “Yeah.” -- source link
