We want to maintain a large cultural presence.”Last year, the City’s choice for a new piece of public art was revealed for display on the median at Jackson and 43rd avenues. However, the response has been overwhelmingly negative. Residents of the Queens neighborhood and others protested the proposal—an 8ft-long reclining human form painted in bright pink—saying it was too bright, too big, too ugly and too expensive.
