Six months after the maid left, farmer Andreas Gruber told his neighbor that he found a mysterious set of footprints out in the snow leading from the edge of the forest to the farm, but none leading back. Since then, they would hear strange footsteps coming from the attic as well as a newspaper they never bought, and on top of this, their house keys disappeared. The family hired a new maid and she arrived at the farm on March 21, just before nightfall. Just a few hours later, the older couple that lived on the farm, as well as their daughter and her daughter, were lured into the barn and butchered to death with an ax. The perpetrator then entered the house and killed a sleeping 2-year-old before making his way to the new maid’s chamber where he slaughtered her as well.No charges were ever laid, and the case is still being investigated to this day. -- source link
