Behind the scenes of The Idiot’s Lantern (Part Eleven)Excerpts from Jason Arnopp’s interviews in DWM #371Louise Page [costume designer]: Rose isn’t a particularly ‘pink’ girl - Billie thinks of Rose as more of a tomboy. She pictured a mixture between prom queen and something more contemporary that Rose might have found in the TARDIS. It’s more like a contemporary girl dressing up, Sex and the City-style, with a flavour of the 1950s. She didn’t want to look too twee, like Olivia Newton John in Grease! I found these pink patent shoes in London, which I thought were fabulous and brought back to Cardiff for Billie to try on. She loved them, so that really governed everything else.As for David, even though the Doctor’s suit isn’t your average pinstripe, you could still accept him as being of this time. I also purposely gave him a slightly stiffer blue shirt for this episode.Mark Gatiss [writer]: I got so used to David having huge hair that it was quite a shock to see him with normal hair in the other stories!
