omercifulheaves:omercifulheaves:Predator 2 (1990)Rewatched this recently and 1.) I think it is thematically a more appropriate sequel to Predator than people give it credit for. Predator was “A big scary alien vs. an action movie archetype” (in that case “John Rambo-style super soldiers”), so here we have Predator 2, a big scary alien versus *another* action movie archetype…Dirty Harry, in this case. Really, a Predator franchise should look like the titular monster cutting its way through the action movie shelf at your video store. A modern Predator flick shouldn’t send them back to the jungle. It should have the beastie in barbarian times fighting, i dunno, Jason Momoa in full Khal Drogo mode. 2.) Seriously, the cast in this is like peering into an alternate universe: The lead is a black guy, his main support are two Hispanic people and every white guy in the movie is either obstructive or comic relief. No way this flick would get made this way today. -- source link
