Since it’s crazy warm, I decided to walk around the field and I came across a hawk I had forgotten about! This poor guy flew into the barbed wire sometime early last summer, probably after a squirrel or something. I remembered him today and all that was still stuck in the fence were a few wing pieces. I was curious and moved some of the leaves and I found almost every single bone! All of the ribs, talons, vertebrae, even some feather bunches (they were super grungy though). I wish I knew how to properly articulate a bird skeleton (the ribs were superrr thin and tiny), but I still decided to walk away with the skull, sternum, ilium with part of the spine, collar bone, and one talon I know bird bones are more fragile so I’m a bit weary on cleaning them the way I would a deer skull. @zooophagous sorry to bother you, would you know an easy, non damaging way to clean them? They’re not super dirty at all (they were covered in leaves and snow) -- source link
