This was the 3rd version of the Bourdain boards. A simple black & white version. “This represents so many things to me. The crown is a representation of Max’s crown from Where the Wild Things Are, done in an almost Basquiat-esque style. Basquiat was known for his heavy use of crowns and I feel like Bourdain has earned his. This photo of Bourdain is so perfect in my mind (I’m still trying to figure out who the original photographer is???). I made these for me, not really as great art statement, but because I wanted to make them for my own home (I’ve made three total.). I love the youthful nature of the Max crown, coupled with the smirk and confident gesture. The fact Bourdain was in his forties before he found his first major success is incredibly inspiring. Throw in a nod to the high brow art world and this board hits all the right vibes.” #bourdain #anthonybourdain #basquiat #wherethewildthingsare #mauricesendak #max #doradthings #rivardart #sharpie #sharpieart #sharpieartist #skateboardart #skateboardartist #skateboardartwork #urbancontemporary #urbancontemporaryart #lowbrowart #lowbrow #lowbrowartist #modernart #popart #art #illustration #artwork (at Minneapolis, Minnesota) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5qHsRplIm4/?igshid=5gyhdgwh9hu7 -- source link
