culturalappreciator:SadeSade is an R&B/jazz/‘neo’ soul band from London, England. It’s members include: Stuart Matthewman, Andrew Hale, Paul Denman, & lead vocalist Sade Adu whom the latter is named after. Formed inthe early 80′s by Latin Soul group, Pride, the band’s 1st official performance was in 1982 at a London club called, Ronnie Scott’s. Sade’s 1st U.S. performance was in NYC a year later. That same year the band was signed to Portrait/Epic Records. Sade’s first album, Diamond Life was then released in 1984, which released the top 10 hit Your Love is King. Diamond Life peaked at #2 on the Billboard charts & went on to sell 4 million copies. The band was now on a winning streak. In 1985, Sade released their second album, Promise, which peaked at # 1 on the UK & US charts and was certified double platinum.Sade continued releasing successful albums throughout the 80′s & into the 90′s. Though still considered a band, in 1992 Sade was officially headlined as a solo artist and released album no. 4, Love Deluxe, which was also certified quadruple platinum. Throughout their career, Sade has released a total of 6 albums with a tour for each. Many artists across several genre’s have been influenced by Sade. Their smooth, soothing, illustrious, & soulful tunes have inspired generations and have been played from basement clubs to stadiums and maybe even your mom’s kitchen on Saturday mornings. -- source link
