3x08 - Let the Games Begin Trivia: Richard was engaged to “Lynnie” Lott before Emily “decided” she had to have him. Later we meet Pennilyn Lott and the disdain Emily expresses for her in this episode only magnifies. Richard proposed next to a trash can at Yale after a spat. Thoughts: Lorelei claims she’s spent “a lot of time and energy fighting the whole Jess thing” but I feel that’s not really true. Mainly I can just remember her telling Rory to pick Jess or to pick Dean, but to make a choice. Why are Rory and Grampa eating chocolates instead of the little tray of appetizer-looking food in the kitchen in front of them. Rory why is your backpack open when you enter Luke’s? I’d worry things might fall out of it. It’s weird to me that Rory and Jess haven’t spent any time together in several days and they’re only just running into each other at Luke’s. How do they know they’re even together? They clearly haven’t discussed anything related to them dating. I do love how protective Luke gets over Rory and Jess dating. He loves Jess, he loves Rory, he wants them both to be happy, but he’s Luke so his paranoia over life and the world means he’s freaking out over all the possible outcomes related to teenagers falling in love. I adore that Emily is always so delighted and shocked by the little life skills that Lorelai has. Rory’s “I love pot roast” is weirdly adorable. Usually she irritates me after season 1, but her tone makes me snort-laugh most times when I watch this episode. Emily’s expression when Richard pulls his stunt with the Dean of Admissions is priceless. I don’t know how Lorelai doesn’t notice it and just assumes at first she was in on the whole thing. I do love that Rory later stands up to Richard for his stunt. Richard conveniently forgetting that Lorelai’s graduated a community college course is probably a writer’s mistake and not a character mistake, but you never know with the Gilmores. They can be jerks. Emily has such good points about Yale, and for once I’m on her side and not Lorelai’s. Luke shouldn’t have to “run all over town looking for Rory” since she only just left, like, 90 seconds beforehand and she’s across the square. Jess smokes? I like that Dean points out to Rory that it’s not all about her and her stupid feelings. It looks like there’s some convenient “moonlight” falling over Rory’s face when she first goes to bed, which makes no sense since the windows aren’t really facing in a direction that would allow the moon to light her up. -- source link
