louisshomesharry:This. A point I see being neglected in these discussions is the fact that including big artists is literally pricing out actual LGBT people. Pride should have NEVER had a price for admission to begin with but it literally doubled in price to accommodate Ariana (who could have used her power to negotiate price), so now LGBT people can’t afford to go to the one major pride event in Manchester. Pride is too expensive for LGBT people to attend and cishets (who face less socioeconomic barriers) are snatching up tickets to see a pop princess.More than pride being a place for cishets to get drunk and have fun, it has become a place for industries (including alcoholic industries, KNOWING LGBT people have higher rates of alcoholism) to profit and exploit. NYC Pride has a Netflix float, a Budweiser float, and down the pridefest alley where there are more volunteer based booths (like Planned Parenthood) there were even army recruiters and vet associations.I can be theoretically okay with a cishet performer–had they actually worked to be an ally beyond holding up flags and had a primarily LGBT fanbase so cishets wouldn’t be flocking left at right for ‘cheap’ tickets–but Ariana coming in after the shit she’s pulled, crying about how she didn’t set the price, and arguing that Manchester means a lot to her is fucked. You can’t be an ally when you’re hurting LGBT people by pricing them out of their own events (like even if cishets weren’t allowed to buy Ariana tickets, poor LGBT peopel STILL would not be able to afford to go) and contributing to the commercialization and exploitation of LGBT spaces.Actually allies know their place, when they’re welcome, and LISTEN when we say how to actually help us. If this had been a Pride-Adjacent event (held the same weekend, hiring some LGBT supporting acts to give them exposure), it’d be whatever, but that’s not what she did.And that’s the problems. Celebrities get such a big head because we call them heros for waving a rainbow flag at their concerts or for saying basic as shit like “I love everyone” or “My gay fans made me who I am,” and so they think they have the right to exploit us. -- source link
