More pics from the Oakland house, 1991: Lorenzo, a wild Colombian high school buddy who introduced me to the house and who even in his most serious moments always seemed to be acting out a slapstick. Shawn, a trained dancer who was dramatically and involuntarily outed one morning when an East Bay newspaper ran a front page picture of him stepping through a symbolic “closet door” at a gay pride event (he was already out to a certain circle of friends, but this was another level). Anthony, a psychedelic Korean cat who was trying to overcome a strict fundamentalist Christian upbringing by exploring his wild side. Sean, an Irish redhead math nerd who had gone AWOL on his overbearing conservative Pennsylvania family by riding a banged-up motorcyle to California. There were other housemates, like Eric, my “band manager” (aka drinking buddy) from South Central LA who was trying to kick crack and meth; and Donna, an immigrant from England who left her small factory town to seek big adventure. You get the picture, we were a ragtag ensemble. -- source link
