Manhattan, New York City, May 2015Hello from Rotterdam, The Netherlands! I’ve been humming this song for the last few weeks and today something clicked. The lyrics, “Even old New York was once New Amsterdam”. Come to find out, in the 1600′s the Dutch use to have a small colony in America called New Netherland. Lower Manhattan, or New Amsterdam, stood as their capital. It wasn’t till 1665 when the English took over and named it New York, after the Duke of York. -- source link
