publicdomainreview: One of the many bizarre and wonderful figures which make up Richard Breton’s The Drolatic Dreams of Pantagruel (1565) — a series of 120 woodcuts depicting a range of fantastically curious and grotesque figures, reminiscent of some of the more inventive and twisted creations of Brueghel or Bosch. Despite Breton’s claims they were by Rabelais (whose book Gargantua and Pantagruel they reference), it’s very unlikely to be true.
