The closest she ever gets to fame and fortune is when she has tea with local eccentric millionaire Rosamund F. Calloway a couple times a month. After Mrs. Calloway dies, all anyone can talk about is her rumored stash of gold, and where she might have hidden it. Then Mrs. Calloway’s butler hand-delivers a letter to Alice, in English class. A letter which not only confirms that the hidden treasure exists, but implies that Alice is meant to find it. There’s nothing Alice loves more than a mystery. But solving this one would shove her into the public eye, a prospect more chilling than it is thrilling. Alice is torn. Until she learns the Sunny Side Up Diner is about to go under. The diner where her best friend Clark not only works, but lives, having been more or less adopted by the owners. In order to save it, Alice and her friends have to find Mrs. Calloway’s hidden fortune, before anyone else can. All they have is wit, grit, and a well-trained pet rat named Ringo. They may be nobodies, but they’re going for the gold. ✩ p e o p l e ✩ a l i c e ➤ sixteen ∙ cis ♀︎ ∙ lesbian ∙ chaotic good Anxiety and overthinking don’t stop Alice from blurting out her thoughts at inopportune times, and doing things on impulse. She lives true to her deeply-held beliefs, but she’s a lot less brave than she looks. Where Alice dives in, Clark tests the waters, and finds some reason to hold back. | white, peachy freckled skin, round face, cool grey eyes, short light-brown hair that’s floppy and wavy on top, prefers baggy clothing in questionable pattern combos, short and stocky g l e n n ➤ sixteen ∙ cis ♂︎ ∙ asexual ∙ lawful good Soft-spoken, even-keel Glenn is universally well-liked at school, but feels most at home playing chess with Alice, or writing. His dream is to become a serious journalist, and that means climbing the ladder of the school paper, whatever it takes. | biracial (Black and white/Jewish), light brown skin, angular face with prominent eyebrows, curly black hair that’s shaggy around his ears, 100% a jock but tends toward more preppy looks, tall and heavy-set t a i ➤ sixteen ∙ trans ♀︎ ∙ straight ∙ chaotic neutral Tai is autistic, and when not overwhelmed, she’s cheerful, curious and full of (sometimes relevant) facts.
