bioniclechicken: AMALGAM: Spider-Boy Name: X-18 Age: 15 Sex: Male Aliases: Pete Ross, Spider-Boy Species: Metahuman (clone) Bio: A long developed project by Cadmus, X-18 was the first successful attempt at cloning Captain Clark Kent, aka Super Soldier, while also imbuing the clone with separate abilities, in this case gravity manipulation. Security guard Ben Parker, concerned for the infant clone’s future as a living weapon, grew attached and freed him, escaping with him to give the boy the normal life he knew he would never have. Parker soon changed his name to Ben Ross and named the clone “Pete” after his deceased brother, who he claims to the boy in the intervening years was his late father. Cadmus continued hounding after the Rosses and as a result Parker raised Pete under paranoid but nonetheless loving care. Pete would eventually grow to be a bright teenager, if not an antisocial loner whose friendless background was driven by both bullying and his Uncle Ben’s paranoia about Cadmus. At the cusp of puberty, Pete’s powers emerged but the teen’s unawareness of his true origins made him believe a spider bite gave him the ability to climb/walk up walls and develop super strength. Inspired by the likes of heroes like Iron Lantern and Super Soldier, Pete sought to use his powers, along with homemade web-shooters he invented himself, to become a superhero and gain fame and fortune. Unfortunately, his first attempt at superheroics ended embarrassingly as he accidentally let a robber flee, his briefly inflated sense of ego believing himself above lowlife criminals. Returning home, Pete was confronted by his Uncle, who saw and recognized him on the news, and an argument ensued. The argument turned sour as Ben refused to explain what he was hiding from Pete and the teen ran from home in a fit of rage. Pete would not be angry for long as he quickly overcame his emotions and decided to return home to reconcile with Ben. Tragically, returning home he saw that Ben had been murdered in an attempted robbery at their home. Pete would later discover that the murderer was the same thug he let escape. Feeling immense remorse and responsibility for what transpired, Pete was inspired to take his heroics more seriously. Later adopted by a woman named May Reilly, in actuality a SHIELD agent in an operation to investigate Cadmus’s criminal activities, Pete adopted the identity of Spider-Boy (his attempts at being called Spider-MAN failed miserably as his age was quite apparent) and began making his name known as a young but promising hero in his own right. -- source link
