In 2015 I was blessed to visit Poland - specifically, I wanted to see the town my late grandfather’s family was from, Zakopane. While I was there, I was also blessed by a visit to Auschwitz. As you may imagine, the tour was somber and humbling, but I truly believe it is something everyone should see. St. Maximilian Kolbe‘s cell was a part of our tour and I must admit it took my breath away. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ There, in the middle of such darkness, was the memory of a man who gave his life to save another. His love was, and continues to be, a glimmer of hope amidst the most horrific of circumstances. Out of respect, I didn’t take photos of the cell, but its memory will forever remain in my heart. I pray that through his example and intercession I may learn to love in such a self-sacrificing, agape manner. He truly is a saint. Saint Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us.
