lanninglurksnomore:raelis1:lanninglurksnomore:comicbookparody:Smallville: Jor’El is a dick! By Sean Whitmore & Brandon Hanvey Adventures in “consistency and coherence is for nerds” courtesy of the dudebros in the SV writers’ room. The sad (or funny) thing is that the strip does not even exaggerate much. They couldn’t seem to decide if AI Jor-El was a super computer, or Clark’s “father”, a benevolent mentor, or hateful, illogical, sadistic machine. There was absolutely zero consistency in how it acted, and how Clark reacted to it. Oh, and he basically just existed to be a deus ex machina with a God-like ability to do just about everything. Take Clark’s powers? No problem. Give them to someone else? No problem. Transport people between universes? Yup, easy as pie. And so on, and so forth. Oh, Smallville. Smallville was allergic to consistency, that’s for sure. I don’t mind a little deus ex machina (it’s a comic book universe, after all, and we are dealing with a magical flying space pea-pod), but every magical system needs to have rules. No rules, and your reader/audience just rolls their eyes and tunes out, because without rules there are no stakes, and without stakes there’s no drama. Also? The Clark Kent I know would have terminated that thing the first time it hurt someone, “father” or not. -- source link
