Even as his competitors arrived to check-in he was nervous. Each other applicant was stunning. Some looked more athletic, and some could be called “pretty” (just like the boy). So, after the scholarship contenders had checked in and all parents sent away with assurances that the young men were safe, the process began. Nervousness turned to calm as the teens were shown a video. Oh god, they thought, it was boring (each kid had dozed off - or so they recall), but when the video ended each contender sported a new attitude. They were in it to win it and each was determined to be the winner. They hungered to be the best in the room, and resolved to listen closely to the speaker and impress the judges. As the university president took the stage the boy perked up. He wanted to listen and follow every word.
