It’s autism awareness month! ❤️ Key things to remember is this month is for awareness, and celebration. Autism isn’t a disease and we should be treated like one. Here are some other important notes -DO NOT SUPPORT AUTISM SPEAKS. Don’t get why I still have to say this but please they aren’t good people. They do not speak for autistics and are regarded as a hate group. - DONT support “Light it up blue” it was created by autism speaks. It’s also suggesting the belief that autism is only a disease for boys. That’s why it’s blue. -instead of blue: “Red instead” is what is actually used by autistic groups. Or I have been told Yellow is for woman specifically. - DONT use puzzle pieces. It’s a old symbol. It’s meant to say “there is a piece missing in this person and if we find it, they will be cured” - DO use the Rainbow infinity symbol. This is widely excepted by the autism community. -DO support Autistic Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN) by autistics for autistics -DO support Neurodiversity designed by autistics to represent the diversity of the autistic spectrum - DO support Autistics Pride. The official pride day is June 18th and the official flag is usually either white or rainbow and has the Infinity symbol on it. Remember we need Awareness not acceptance. We deserve respect just like everyone else. Somebody has to make this hateful world more exciting. #autism #autismawareness #autismawarenessmonth #autismpride #redinstead #disabilityawareness https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb5vY2JuFFo/?utm_medium=tumblr -- source link
