Thirteen Days of Halloween TFs Day 11 BatShe had always been afraid of bats, well, not so much afraid as paranoid they would fly in her hair, and not always as much as since she was a little kid. Erin had been the youngest of three children, and her two older brothers loved to tease there somewhat gullible younger sister. One summer in particular they had convinced her that bats would swoop down from the sky and get tangled in her hair, and from then on it had been a fear of hers. She may have grown up, but the childhood fear lingered. She currently was panicking, one of her friends had invited her to a Halloween party and she had accepted before she found out it was at a cabin on the hillside by the lake. Even in early fall, bats would fly down from the caves in the mountain to eat bugs by the lake, and she just knew it meant her impending doom. She had no idea what she was going to do and started to panic. She spent the rest of the day trying to find some solution online. Eventually she came across an ad for Bat-Spray. Bat-Spray, guaranteed to solve all of your bat related problems. She assumed it must work like bug spray, and with 4 days remaining ordered a package of the spray cans for rush delivery. She spent the next three days nervously awaiting her package, and on the night before the party a late delivery truck showed up and dropped of the white cardboard box with her prize.Erin quickly grabbed the box and ran inside with it, taking it to her kitchen and tearing into the box with a knife. Within moments she had packing peanuts and cardboard covering her floor and the unassuming blue spray can in hand. It had a picture of a bat, and the words Bat-Spray, but no information, but she assumed you just spray yourself liberally. She gave her hand a quick spritz to smell. It was fruity, but also somewhat musty. Not the greatest smell, but not bad either, she could live with it.Satisfied with her purchase she finished off her night and went to bed. Her sleep was troubled with odd dreams of soaring through the night skies, or over dark forests. She awoke feeling nervous and tense, all sense of relief had vanished. She went to push herself out of bed, but found her arms weren’t… working right. She stumbled and rolled out of bed and staggered to her floor length mirror only to freeze in her tracks. All thought left her at that point and she looked blankly at her reflection, well, a reflection. She wasn’t convinced this THING was her. It looked like her, but it had leathery wings instead of arms, and it’s ears sat on tops its head. Even it’s nose was darker and a different shape. She went to scream and noticed the sharp teeth in her mouth, this was too much.Erin spent the rest of the afternoon figuring out how to use a mouse and keyboard with the two nubby hook like protrusions of her wings. It was slow going but she managed with difficulty. She researched bats for hours, eventually finding her fear was just a rumor, and that bats were actually quite interesting. She wasn’t sure she wanted to stay a batgirl, but she was going to have the best Halloween costume this year and could call the company for a refund after the party… -- source link
