In the end 02 was just Nono…but not a robot, and why the fuck did that even need to happen..?Eh, I expected this, but not because the show itself was pointing in that direction from foreshadowing or it’s themes(which appeared to be against the whole idea of self sacrifice and merging of consciousness) but because it can’t keep itself away from “homages” no matter how rushed or out of place it really feels. But it did make me feel like rewatching diebuster at least. And if this sticks to ripping off gunbuster, I guess the main pair won’t return until after all their friends have died and had many generations of ancestors.But. Doesn’t she already know he’s not human anymore? They touched horns. So after all those promises she just decided to leave on her own. This pair keeps going back and forth on development even at the end.The side characters are all kinda useless. After that argument where Goro raised some valid points it was all forgotten a few minutes later last episode, and in this one they don’t contribute much. And last ep it was actually a good scene and the drama made sense. So of course it gets reversed and erased immediately. It would be interesting if there actually was a division between who stayed and went due to that argument so it actually had some reason to happen. Instead p13 just acts like a monolithic entity again, ironically(or after this episode maybe it doesn’t matter). The anime didn’t really know what to do with the 9′s either, which is why the manga making them a rival pilot group makes more sense to me. It has a more shounen manga feel it overall. But here it’s like they tried but could not commit to a solid character arc for Alpha. I see signs of it, he has big shocks to his core ideology, and clearly would have to change and adapt to people he’s not used to, lose teammates, lose his “mentor/father figure”, experience an existential crisis when he’s knocking on death’s door and all that but they back away from delving into him when it would go a long way with making what they attempt to do mean something.…??? Just a ‘lotta wasted potential overall. What ever happened to the masked clones of 02? -- source link
