PASSENGERS (Morten Tyldum, 2016)Finally caught this over the New Year’s weekend. I initially thought the movie was a bit of mess storytelling-wise and kind of middle of the road as far as entertainment value. But the more I have thought about it the past few days, the less I like Passengers. *SPOILERS* And it all boils down to that moment in the plot where Jim (Chris Pratt) essentially “kidnaps” Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence) and dooms her to death with him on the ship. It’s supposed come off as a big moral dilemma for Jim. Instead, it’s just him being selfish and willing to negate Aurora’s own plans for her future because he’s lonely. Also troublesome is Aurora’s willingness (eventually) to still love Jim after she finds out what he has done. It’s all very Stockholm syndrome and taints everything that comes after it … especially the “we lived the rest of our lives in happiness” ending.2/5 -- source link
