As a maker & lover of the planet I struggle between giving my supporters what they want & doing what’s right for the environment. Knowing that synthetic materials I use to build swimwear contribute to the pollution of our earth hurts my heart. Even though I do small things with my business like recycle scrap fabric waste into dog/cat beds for shelters, use recycled material mailers, keep my packaging simple, & donate to organization I believe are doing something positive for the planet, I just don’t feel like it’s enough. So in the next couple of months I will be dropping a lot (not all) of my synthetic fabric options & replacing them with more natural options that use mostly organic hemp, bamboo, & cotton with a tiny percentage of lycra. These types fabrics breakdown faster when thrown into landfills & don’t contribute to the micro plastics in the water when washed. This isn’t an easy transition for me, I have to find the right suppliers, fabric types, and make pieces to test each fabric, but I feel like it’s something I truly believe in. Small changes begin with education that can lead to bigger changes within all of us, I hope that you all will support the change I’m making to help Mother Earth thrive for a little while longer.
