This photo~stream is In Loving Memory of my English Grandmother, whose Birthday it was yesterday. She would be 92. I must have (subconsciously) remembered, as I have been thinking and talking about her non-stop for two days. She was a puppeteer, costumer {and clothing maker}, quilter, crafter, folk art collector, music lover, and a loving mother, grandmother, and wife. Most importantly to me she was {probably my most} tremendous inspiration, passing along tools, conducting patient lessons and introducing me to new~and~mutually~shared passions through visits to museums and the theatre, records, books & oral stories. Pictured are two dolls she made for me when I was a young girl. One is Scarlett O'Hara, and the other a mini-me, for she made me a matching calico dress. The hand~sewn chemise under the wedding dress, the hand cast, fired, and painted porcelain head, hands, and boots, the prettily~lace~ trimmed petticoats and pantalettes ensuring fullness and one’s modesty {for “Cheap exhibitions soon sink into contempt…”}, the hoop bones, handcrafted leather boots with leather~covered buttons and wooden soles. All these details and more are a testament to her lovely eye and craftmanship. Much love goes out into the aether for Grandmom Maine on her birthday! I know you are not so far away! xoxo~Jessie -- source link
