abcsofadhd:iraprince:weird little brain tweak/reframing that helped me out. i Often find that advice that seemingly helps Everyone Else doesn’t make any sense to me, in ways that are hard to describe, and it can be really frustrating. but when i find a way to explain it to myself that finally seems to break through and make it click, it feels really goodI call them ‘ONE THINGs’ (as in, one thing at a time).ADHDers struggle with task switching.. holding different pieces of info slows us down and increases chance of us being distracted. Our brains also has difficulty automatically breaking down tasks into workable steps.Therefore you want to manually break up the tasks into smaller tasks where you only have to hold one thing in mind. Its actually the same as the comic says, you want to break them up into steps so you don’t need to think about anything else while doing it. Make it as mindless as possible, so you only have to focus on the thing you’re doing.The smaller the tasks, the less you have to task switch and the less chance of fucking up.So with the room cleaning example, our ADHD brains thinks of everything it needs to do at the same time, doesn’t know where to start and panics/ get intimidated. Breaking down the task into workable ONE THINGS gives it easy instructions, that it doesn’t need to think about. (It’s why habits are so useful for ADHDers.. it allows us to do tasks without having to think about it). -- source link
