FYDB Hot Shot: Roy Lim Roy Lim, a huge fan favourite of FYDB was skinny, that is until he bulked up since February 2012. FYDB interviews the team Naga dragonboater alum on his bulking regime and fitness. FYDB: Describe yourself before the regiment. RL: To be honest, I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum, to be honest. Been pretty fat when I was 12 - 13 and skinny when I was 15 - 18. So yeah. Interesting childhood. FYDB: Describe your diet for the past year. RL: I switch it up. It almost felt like trial and error. But the one that worked is the high protein diet. Chicken breasts, eggs, meat… Don’t forget veggies and fish! And protein shakes are my best friends. By the way, I dig out my yolk when I consume my eggs. Five to six meals are spread out in a day. Many cut down on rice but I make sure I eat a certain portion of it. I still need to bulk. If you are skinny, rice is always the way to go. It isn’t bad, though many try to avoid. Brown rice would be the better option. My family buys brown rice, which helps. It is a good replacement. Another alternative would be seaweed rice. But I love my meat. Sometimes after my workout, I go for half a chicken or a full one. *sniggers* FYDB: Right, so more protein and unprocessed carbs. Got it. Did you take supplements like protein or pills? RL: ’m living proof of bulking without pills. It may seem like a long process but just stay by the traditional way and results will eventually show. I don’t believe in taking pills. Pills harm you in the long run. Protein shakes and Creatine, which is a boost of energy for workout, should be good enough. FYDB: What’s your favourite protein shake? RL: Optimum Nutrition, Strawberry flavour - and you can never go wrong with that! By the way, never get shakes from GNC (daylight robbery) Get yours from Nutrition Park or Optimum Nutrition! FYDB: how do you feel about before and after you started the workout? And how do you feel now after seeing the results? RL: Before, I feel hopeful. I did take photos so I could keep track. I dont think im there yet, however, I’m never complacent. I’m sure many gym-goers can relate to it. I just want to keep going at it but also keeping in mind that staying humble and appreciative is the key. I didn’t expect myself to get this far but am thankful because without my friends, my support system, who have guided me along the way, I wouldn’t be where I am now. FYDB: What are you looking forward to with another six months of training? RL: Really hoping to bulk more and then concentrate on definition. In terms of my physique, enough is never enough. There’s still a lot of work to do for myself. So yeah. It definitely helped with my confidence. _______________________________________ So does the gymrat addiction ever end for Roy? Apparently not. Roy’s looking more toned after the new year, a nod to those who have yet to even begin their new year’s resolution. His transformation, which took less than a year is definitely astonishing. We’ve added a picture of him from April 2013 up there too. And well, the lesson learnt from Roy here is that having a support system helps in reaching his goal - while most people work alone, it is indeed a myth that the road to fitness is a lonely one. Confidence is also what you would gain after such improvements in not just what you see in the mirror but also the strength you gain. There’s no stopping Roy Lim - the first of many FYDB will interview for our new segment Is there anyone else you feel deserving of a spot on FYDB Hot Shot?
