greek-museums:Archaeological Museum of the Stoa of Attalos:An oinochoe (c. 420-400 B.C) and a kylix (c. 480 B.C). The oinochoe bears a scene with a young man with a basket and man who operates a furnace for melting metal. The kylix presents a young soldier offering a libation to an altar. The kylix presents an idealized picture of male youth, one of vigour and valour. The oinochoe presents an everyday and even banal scene. Aristophanes mentions the haircut the young man wears in Nephelai, and the young men who wear their hair in that fashion are presented as sort of the “losers” of athenian society. A shady sort who would get involved in all sort of frauds and cons to support their lifestyles. The young man could be as well bringing jewellery, or some other metal that he stole, or extorted, or something similarly shady, to be melted. -- source link
