Wallace was one of the major leaders of the Wars of Scottish Independence. He led Scottish forces against the English with great success, such as at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297. However he was captured in 1305 and was sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered by King Edward I of England.
