Why Cavemen Needed No Braces Wisdom teeth are impacted due to diminishing jaw strength during a human’s development; crucially during a human’s toddler years when the child’s jaw is developing the fastest. Most children are raised on soft food and humans continue to eat primarily soft foods for most of their lives. I can’t find it currently, but there was a study in a dental journal published in the last few years that compared jaw-room/strength between urban and rural children in Ireland in the 1880’s(?) and children today. Overall modern children have smaller room in their mouths and their jaws are smaller than children of the same age in the 1880’s(?). But there was also a contrast between urban children and rural children in Ireland. The urban children, on average, had smaller mouth room versus their rural counterparts due to the urban children having greater access to processed foods while children in the rural areas ate raw/harder foods more often and a stronger jaw was developed during their formative years. If you want to help prevent a weak jaw and the later issues of misaligned teeth and impacted molars, regularly introduce harder/tougher foods to them at a young age. glad to know incel jaw has a scientific precedent and that the solution is to feed my toddler beef jerky -- source link
