fishcommunity: aquatictimes: Endless list of aquatic creatures I’d love to keep: 67. Trichogaster Lalius, aka Dwarf Gourami Mod @thebrackishtank @quasarlasar responded: Be careful. Most of the ones in pet stores and aquarium shops have dwarf gourami iridovirus So I don’t have any recent numbers on the subject, but back in 2010 the number of Dwarf Gouramis infected with the iridovirus was somewhere in the ballpark of 22%. What doesn’t help is that this species is susceptible to mycobacterium infections, does poorly in water with moderate (or more) hardness, and the breeding stock in general is just poor. Like Neon Tetras, Golden Wonder Killies, and Guppies they are bred to sell at a price vice aiming for good health. It leads me to two points; 1) I don’t recommend buying this fish species. Honey Gourami are marginally better but you are MUCH better off with Thick Lipped Gourmi or Banded Gourami, even keeping in mind they get a few inches bigger. And 2) When I reblog pictures to this blog, I’m doing it to spread awareness of the existence of certain fish more so than spread awareness of suitability. So keep in mind as you see our posts that a reblog doesn’t necessarily mean I recommend keeping them. -- source link
