oisuga weekend: day two: mercury - message, flight, heat tw: death/death mentionsi had the workings of a fic but it’s far too sloppy and embarrassing to post…so i’ll just sum up the au plot here:suga is the last carrier of a great plague that ravaged small settlements in the countryside for centuries. fearing both death and the sin of harming a child, he was rowed out to an island in the middle of a lake by frightened villagers and left to wither.years later, suga has made a home for himself on the island, hunting fish and growing plants to survive, though his illness has been slowly catching up with him. he is at peace with himself, content to have lived a quiet life, when he is greeted by a lord of tidings.the lords of tidings are minor gods, once human, who pass on messages to the loved ones of the dying.the god asks suga for his final words, but suga replies that he has nobody to leave a message for; he has spent over a decade by himself. the god is moved and takes pity on his situation, offering to grant him a small wish before he passes. suga shyly asks to speak with him again, having missed the joy of conversation. the god agrees and vanishes, the settling dust revealing his name in the sand: tooru.over a few weeks, the god comes to visit suga, each time bringing a new and fascinating trinket from across the earth: books of sorceries from the south, flowers that would bloom into birds during the new moon, soft blankets woven by mountain oracles to protect again the iciest chills. suga’s eyes grow brighter and wider with each gift, as the god’s heart grows lighter and warmer with each enchanted smile.they sit together in the reeds, exchanging and delighting in each other’s stories while fishing for dinner. after sunset, the god shapes the swarms of fireflies hovering over the shallows into legends with gentle flicks of his hand, all the while delighting in suga’s gasps and sighs at the myths floating before them.the two of them grow immeasurably close, tooru having long forgotten the charms of being human and suga having his tiny island become as vast the world. they melt into each other, complete each other, their evenings along the lake shore spent with entwined fingers, their goodbyes peppered with quiet kisses.the god returns one day to find the island deserted. suga’s bed is empty, save for a neatly folded blanket and a note.my lord of tidings, i have finally found some last words - thank you for everything.i love you.tooru weeps, and begins searching the lake for his beloved’s body. days pass and he finds nothing, so he begins to dig into the sand. weeks pass and he finds nothing again, so he begins to drain the lake but tears roll down his face to fill it up again before he can see the bottom. heartbroken and defeated, he wraps himself up in suga’s old blanket on what is left of the island and falls asleep for the first time in an aeon.when he awakens, the island is as it used to be - the crops are thriving, the birds are singing, the wind is blowing a cool mist over the ground. wondering if he’s losing his mind, he starts looking for the holes he dug but finds nothing. he falls to the ground, heart heavy and aching, wondering if he’s finally lost his mind, when he hears a small voice from the reeds.suga is floating in the air above the lake. tooru freezes and they eye each other with tender, disbelieving eyes before throwing themselves at each other, their screams echoing across the water.“how?” tooru asks, through thick tears.“a lord of tidings vanished before completing his duties,” suga replies, eyes shining, “in their wisdom, the gods chose to kindle another.”seeing the smile on his love’s face, tooru feels his grief slip away. bright, clear laughter erupts from his lips and the two of them fall further into each other’s arms, eternity stretching out before them.haha yeah it’s not super good…or original…or anything but i really like mythology aus! i wanted to have a shot at a romantic tragedy sort of thing, like tristan and isolde or pyramus and thisbe, even if i’m too much of a softy to actually end things on a sad note. sorry for how poorly written this is, even as a summary! i got suuuper off track…i’m rly tired and not good w words to begin with orz -- source link
