Just a block from a mandatory evac zone, I huddled up in my apartment starting Sunday morning, movie marathon armed and ready for Sandy. It wasn’t until Monday evening that I decided to step outside for some air when I noticed the river was creeping dangerously close, only half a block away, but assured myself all would be fine. Luckily, and incredibly thankfully, my side of Greenpoint made it through the storm basically unscathed, so much so that it made what I was watching on the news seem completely illusory. Still not having gone into Manhattan, I feel completely detached from the nightmare many of my friends are having to deal with. Last night I looked across the river onto a dark city, barely discernible from the midnight sky. Reality still hasn’t set in, but damn NYC, way to stay strong and pull through this mess. -- source link
