Pictured is the Thruston House in Mount Vernon, Texas. The two-story dogtrot-style home belonged to Col. Henry Clay Thruston who, at seven feet, seven-and-one-half inches tall, was the tallest soldier in the Civil War. The home is on the historic Bankhead Highway, an early transcontinental route from San Diego to Washington DC (1919). The house also serves as Mount Vernon’s Visitors Center.
