The invitation: bring your most inquisitive gaze, boar-like nose, and untraceable feet. We were stalking wild fungi, but as always, they had even more subterranean plans for us. They stayed steadfastly rumored, but Comb Tooth Mushroom (Hericium coralloides) and False Turkey Tail (Stereum ostrea) revealed themselves, as well as a maybe masked marauder mushroom (if it wasn’t a Honey Mushroom!). We entered Rock Creek Park and emerged a little…changed. To celebrate our metamorphosis, we had a post-hike fall feast. We may have raised a glass of Good Sense Farm Tej (Honey Wine) in honor of #FOMENTDC! Who knows? The trees are re-absorbing their stories, misting our memories….“Debauchee of Dew” (Emily Dickinson)We dined upon:*Rustic Cheese Board w/ Brie, Native Persimmons, Comb Honey and Olive Bread*Roasted Root Vegetable Medley with Braised Mustard Greens and Wild Mushroom Gravy (I’d call it undergrowth)And there’s still time for you to stage your own version of this experience with our mushroom and honey offerings!
