prongs-stagdo: October 31th 1978 “Babe?” James grinned down at the equally smiling young woman tucked in the crook of his arm. “Yes pumpkin?” He replied smoothly and the beam he received seemed to practically bubble over with mirth. “You know, sometimes I think I might love your sorry ass,” She tilted her head up towards his, “But only once in a while though,” “Oh really?” He feigned surprise, “Is that so?” She nodded in agreement over the improbability of the matter and sighed dramatically. “And to think, now that I’ve gone and gotten myself engaged,” She shook her head. “And who might this unlucky fellah be?” He quirked an eyebrow. “Well, Mr. Black of course,” Lily uttered haughtily, having switched to a proper Victorian accent, “And he is such a fine gentleman, Mr. Black, and a excellent match, there’s no denying it,” “Is there no way then, Miss Evans, that I can persuade you to reconsider?” James inquired passionately, finally catching on to her silly little game. “Reconsider?” Miss Evans looked more dazed than ever. “Yes, my lovely little bird, in favour of me; your humble servant?” Mr. Potter grabbed her hand and planted a feathery kiss on the knuckles. “Oh dear, how forward you are Mr. Potter,” She gave a rather impressive act of dramatic swooning and James caught her right on queue. “Miss Evans, are you quite all right?” “I am now, here in your strong, capable arms,” She gazed into his eyes a short moment before bursting into giggles. James followed soon after, laughing and shaking his head. When they’d finally collected themselves and started walking again they fell into peaceful silence. The autumn around them radiated with colour, it was one of the nicer days in a long time. “I do love you though,” Lily murmured into his shoulder after a while. There was no amusement left, but a smile still lingered in the corner of her lips. He didn’t immediately answer her affections, but seemed to ponder his reply carefully. Finally he looked down at her expectant face. “I would like to marry you, if you’ll have me,” He said and she knew he wasn’t joking. She looked at him for a moment and knew with a sliver of mischievous satisfaction that the longer she waited the more anxious he got. But she couldn’t keep the grin off her face for long. “Of course I’ll have you, you prat,” She said and pulled him into a kiss. -- source link
