“The characterization of Jeanne in the anime was super offputting and confusing to me. The first scene we see of her, she’s apparently so physically capable and legendary that Vanitas SPRINTS away without a second thought and even  Noe is no match for her. I was immediately intrigued like omg who is this icon???? Towards the conclusion of the series, she’s treated as little more than a cute blushy love interest and her physical power is seldom mentioned again. I would expect that someone with such a legendary influence in the canon world would be more feared and… reveled at, I guess? Like it would make sense if people seeing her on the street would take an immediate interest in her or something. But nearly everytime she showed up, the focus was entirely on her and Vanitas’s relationship. I wanted more of her being… a character? And not have every single scene relate back to her feelings for Vanitas in some way. I don’t mind the romance, but I find it annoying that it seems to be replacing some characterization for Jeanne.“ -- source link
