an-ime-goil:brella:#so i mean this is one of the few times we see dick REALLY frustrated #i mean yes in Image he pushes his bangs back #and in Failsafe he gets in Wally’s face #but god this part #i mean looking back #this is when Dick was struggling with not being good enough #of course he didn’t SAY anything about it #he just went on being his flippy snarky self #but when he was alone #we get he’s jealous of kaldur #and he’s pushing himself to his limits #and getting pissed with himself when he gets sloppy#and he just doesnt feel better so he unleASHES HIS FIST ON A WALL #HOLY CHRIST ITS SO IMPRESSIVE #AND SAD #UGH PRECIOUS BABY I CANT EVEN HANDLE YOU RIGHT NOW (via asterush)I was thinking about this the other day! Like… several things. First, HOLY FUCK, HE DENTED A CONCRETE WALL WITH HIS LITTLE KNUCKLES. Frankly, I think that was unrealistic, but let’s just roll with it and assume that Dick was just that angry and frustrated that he managed to do that. So, one - damn, that kid packs a punch, more than one would think for his size and tendencies towards acrobatics instead of raw strength. Two, it’s fascinating just how high Dick’s expectations of himself are. Dick’s world really and truly revolves around Bruce and Bruce’s opinion of him - and it just kills him to not be good enough for Bruce. It’s not about Aqualad being better than him, it’s about Bruce thinking Dick isn’t good enough, leaving him to trust more in Aqualad. It’s Bruce dismissing Dick and giving attention to Aqualad. It’s funny because I wouldn’t consider Dick as particularly ‘ambitious’, at least not in the usual sense of the word. He doesn’t care that much about money or easy living or being in a powerful position or status or whatever - maybe because he already has it, but still. Yet, this drive, this ITCH to please Bruce, to be good enough, to help, to be needed, to be depended on, to be irreplaceable, is what truly pushes him to train, to learn, to have all the willpower it takes to be Robin. And like you said, Brella, it’s crazy that this is what gets under the skin of our usually chill and flippant Boy Wonder - his need to live up to Bruce’s expectations. And when we think about season 2, it’s obvious that drive never disappeared, Dick never quite grew out of it, and he’s still driven by that need to live up to Bruce’s expectations and do him proud -- source link
