I always liked that scene in the phantom trailer where “Big Boss” and Kaz were limping back to motherbase, shadows of their former selves and I know kojima wanted to envoke John Miltons poem “Paradise Lost” when lucifer and his army are cast out of heaven, and they plot revenge. I used the trailer scene for reference because in the actual game the scene looks different, the lighting is more like midday than sundown. In this version  i digitally painted, i added cloud elements in the background to kind of symbolize the heaven they have been cast out of. -- source link
