ltwilliammowett: ltwilliammowett:Medicine Chest A relic of Sir John Franklin’s last expedition 1845-48 A mahogany medicine chest found near Ross Cairn, Point Victory, King William Island on 2 June 1859 by the McClintock Search Expedition 1857-59. Together with a dip circle, parts of a telescope, a sextant and a coffee canister. The chest is held together with screws. It has brass hanges and the remains of a canvas cover. It has a plush pad inside the lid and is fitted with a lock and strap now broken. It contained 25 small bottles, canisters of pills, ointment and plaster. It is more likely to have belonged to an officer, for his own use, than to have been part of the surgeons’s supplies. More pictures of the contents of this medicine chest. -- source link
